It Doesn’t Matter

A candy wrapper on the ground

I leave it there, even though there are plenty of cans around

“It’s just a little wrapper, it doesn’t matter.”

A runner throws their bottle into a bog

Not wanting to take time off their jog

“It’s just a little bottle, it doesn’t matter.”

A teenager puts their recycling with their garbage

Giving less thought to it than their vacation baggage

“It’s just some cardboard and plastic, it doesn’t matter.”

A smoker tosses their cigarette into the dirt

Giving no care to all the animals the ash would hurt

“It’s just a little cigarette butt, it doesn’t matter.”

A driver throws their trash on the side of the road

Ignoring how the wind can make it glide and flow

“It’s just a small bag, it doesn’t matter.”

A factory throws their waste in the river

Making it so poisonous it’ll kills fish liver

“It’s just a little bit of sludge, it doesn’t matter.”

“It’s only just a plastic bag, a plastic bottle, a cigarette butt and some ash to list

It’s only some more garbage in a landfill, and some dead animals and fish.

I don’t see why you’re having such a fit,

It’s only just a tiny little bit.

It doesn’t matter, it doesn’t matter.”
